The Meandering Mind

Heh.

I've had two referrals for "Smallville Slash" and one for "Clark and Lex Slash" already. Sorry guys, but let me (and Beth) know if you find any {g}.

Shycloud Foleylove... she is the cutest thing ever {g}.

Things to do today:

*call US Ticketmaster and figure out what's happening with these TMBG tix *sniff*
*return my very overdue books
*mail my very overdue bills
*mail The Documentary that should have been done days ago
(are we seeing a theme yet?)
*go see the Beta Band (yay!)

Ummm... what else? Label a bunch of videos, maybe call the dude at Shaw to see if I can actually volunteer, but he's terrible at responding to messages. Shop for something nifty to wear when we go see Tori next week? (can'twaitcan'twaitcan'twait!)

A ha.

The feeling of remembering something after not thinking about it for so long is quite strange.

That was the weirdest show...

Hee.

Because what movie wouldn't be improved by the addition of ninjas?

I should clarify: I'm sure I've seen movies that old before. But not in their entirety, and not since I've gotten interested in the way movies are actually filmed.

I actually had a good Halloween this year.

Okay, last Halloween wasn't bad... I was in San Francisco for a convention (never mind what kind -- it wasn't Star Trek, and that's all you need to know), and I got to dress up as a sort of Darth Maul/Jedi hybrid (cause I had the Jedi robes and the Darth Maul eyes -- got a ton of compliments, although some people aren't particularly bright -- no, my eyes aren't naturally like that, moron...). Hung around the actual party just long enough to play a couple of the games and cruise the costumes, then took off back to the motel room to watch random snippets of Oz while making lewd comments {g}. Good times, good times.

This year, I thought I was going to have to spend Halloween by myself, so I got a ticket to see Nosferatu, with the score done by the VSO. Got all dressed up in black, black wig, dark makeup (and I have got to dye my hair black one day), went off to see the movie... it was cool.

The conductor's name was Gillian Anderson, so naturally there were a few giggles. Just as the lights dimmed, someone shouted, "Scully!", which threw the orchestra's timing off just a smidge.

The movie itself was ... interesting. I'd never seen it before. Don't even think I've seen a movie that old before, so it was neat to see how it was filmed. The acting style was quite interesting as well {g}. Loved the sped-up action of the demon carriage, loved Knock running and skipping away from the townspeople... not entirely a scary movie, but very funny.

The only problem was that because I had never seen the movie before, and had never really been to see the VSO before, my attention kept bouncing back and forth. I'd try to watch the movie, only to find myself staring at the guy cranking the wind machine, or try to watch the conductor in an attempt to figure out what it is she really does, only to be distracted by the hero onscreen cowering under his bedclothes.

And then afterwards we wandered around for a while and gawked at costumes. Suit of armor -- very cool. Guy in diaper -- not so cool. Although he had quite the mouth on him... his four friends weren't in costume at all, but he didn't seem at all self-conscious about not wearing pants. I think it was supposed to be a sumo outfit, because he kept shouting, "Made in Japan, baby!" and leering "Domo arigato!" at passing women. Creepy, to say the least {g}.

Dressing up is fuuuuun.

I dreamt last night that I was arguing with my mom, and the whole ugly thing ended up with me screaming, "It's not fair!" repeatedly at the top of my lungs in front of a roomful of people.

Hmm... if only I was skilled in dream interpretation :P

:o

Mysterious packages! The good kind!

I love Kate {g}.

I'd post what was actually inside, but I suspect that sarah's going to be getting one too, if she hasn't already...

But yay! Gotta love getting presents unexpectedly.

Oh no! Did I miss the Gemini Awards??

I'm a bad Canadian.

Okay, new career plan: I'm going to travel back and in time, go into radio, and hang around Lister Sinclair. CBC AM was broadcasting what I guess was a celebration of his 80th birthday, which basically consisted of people talking about how wonderful he is, and he sounds really, really interesting. Unbearably smart, but really interesting. And "Ideas" was/is a very cool show.

Is it wrong that I want to see Smallville solely because I've heard that Clark Kent gives Lex Luthor mouth-to-mouth? (It's horrible, yet fascinating...)

Never mind. I know it's wrong. I just can't help myself. Luckily I don't get the WB.

Hee. Okay, now I feel better.

I don't really feel "bleh". I feel "meh". But there is no imood thingy for "meh". So "bleh" it is.

Grrr where'd my post go?

Though all I was going to say was that I love the horn bits in Belle & Sebastian's "I fought in a war". Yeah.

Hm. Sometime during the past five minutes, I've become vaguely depressed. Odd.

Oh well. Went to see From Hell last night. Actually, I went to see it yesterday afternoon, but laziness + bad timing = missed movie (twice, to be precise). I wanted to see it because I'd heard good things about the graphic novel (and Alan Moore's Watchmen is absolutely amazing). And the whole Johnny Depp factor didn't hurt.

I think I liked it. Some parts were absolutely gorgeous (although then last night I went home and watched Sleepy Hollow and marvelled at how... painting-like(?) so many of the scenes look), there were a bunch of cool people in it, and it wasn't as gory as I feared it would be. I also feel vaguely guilty for liking it, because I've been known to complain about movies that use violence for the sake of violence, and really, this is a movie about a serial killer. Can't explain why it felt different than something like American Psycho (my least favourite movie ever, even if it did star Christian Bale). (Although the book had already really fucked me up, so it was probably a bad idea to watch the movie after that.) (And I cannot believe there's a sequel. With the girl from That 70s Show. Craziness)

Whee! Parentheses!

I feel like I should be doing something. I feel dissatisfied. I have no idea why.

I finally figured out how to knit ribbing (so now I can knit basically anything where you alternate knit and purl stitches in the same row) and I am so proud of myself {g}. (Mostly because I was being a moron before and kept ending up with a horrible mass of randomly twisted wool rather than nice neat stitches :P)

Oh! Must write about last night. Although sarah already did a pretty good job of it.

I'm thinking this is going to be a touch rambly, so maybe you'd better head over to my scribble and read it there.

Noooooo...

(you'll have to scroll down. and no, it's not the Harry Potter-related one)

I barely know John Constantine at all -- I've never read "Hellblazer" (although if anyone happens to have a copy and wants to lend it to me, I'll love you forever [there needs to be a comic library, goddamnit!]), but Nicholas Cage? Meh. Yeah, he's blonde, but that's about it. And I don't entirely dislike the guy, either. It's just not right.

And also: "The film is being described as Beetlejuice meets My Best Friend's Wedding. " (Um... when I reread that line it looks like I mean it to refer to the description of the Constantine movie. No. That would be horribly, horribly wrong. It refers to another item on that Rogers page, some movie with Natalie Portman... it's just a disturbing-in-itself concept for a movie.)

Bleurgh.
