The Meandering Mind

I'm starting to hate the computer as much as I did pre-cable internet. This is not good.

Where the hell did the last forty-five minutes go?

*sigh* I'm going to have a shower.

FUCK.

Versatility and passion. That's what I've got to prove that I have, in 500 words.

Gah! I didn't think this would be that hard.

I'm totally obsessed with TV, which is pretty apparent to anyone who talks to me for a while, but how can I explain that in an essay? I'm not sure obsession is the same thing as passion anyway.

I've been on the computer (intending to write this essay) for two hours, and I've only just now opened Microsoft Word. This is not a good start.

Oh, I forgot to mention "Undeclared"... I know Chris thought it would suck, but what does he know, anyway? {g}

It had a few dumb moments, but mostly it was great. I only saw a few eps of "Freaks and Geeks" (much like "Sports Night", I didn't bother watching until I knew it was going to be cancelled, because I'm a moron), but I liked it a lot, and this seems to be in the same tone. And hey. Charlie Hunnam. That's just cool. Even it is weird to see him making out with girls. And his accent is vaguely off, too. Or different, at least.

It's 3:00! Augh!

I should be in a good mood (house to myself, nothing to do except write an essay about how wonderful I am, virus-free computer once again, film fest and multiple concerts to look forward to), but instead I just feel... bleh. I guess it's probably not helping that I'm still in my pj's at two in the afternoon, or that I stayed up too late again and slept in too late, and haven't really eaten much today. Maybe I just need to whine.

Things to look forward to:

Sept 30/01: Word on the Street (reading/writing festival)

VIFF movie #1 ("He Died With a Felafel in his Hand")
VIFF movie #2 ("Everybody Says I'm Fine")

Oct 1/01: VIFF movie #3 ("I Know I'll See...")

Oct 2/01: VIFF movie #4 ("London")
VIFF movie #5 ("Heroes in Love")
Kevin on That 70s Show
season premiere of BtVS (shut up, it's good)

Oct 4/01: Hawksley Workman!
"The Herd" on CBC (thanks for mentioning it, Kitana)

Oct 5/01: Convocation (and I finally get my camera, yay...)

Oct 6/01: sarah's birthday
VIFF movie #6 ("Wild Flowers)
VIFF movie #7 ("American Astronaut")

Oct 9/01: Ben Folds!

Oct 31/01: Halloween (still need to figure out what I'm doing, though)

Nov 8/01: Rufus and Tori!

Nov 9/01: Sloan! (assuming I can get off work...)

Things to Dread:

Hmmm. Writing this essay is minorly blechy, but nothing major.

Convocation'll be a bit scary.

Weird. I used to make these lists all the time, update them every few months, and usually the "look forward to" and "dread" sides balanced out fairly evenly. For once, the plusses are completely outweighing the minuses, and I still feel sort of crappy. Yay!

Added another cool person to my links. Even if her layout does make me all sad about missing TMBG. I still have the tickets sitting on my dresser... I wonder if I should do anything with them or just wait and see what happens?

I love my TA {g}.

I had to go down to Commercial Drive yesterday to pick up a reference letter he'd written for me, and it was the first time I'd ever walked around there -- it's very cool. Felt really, really friendly. Two people smiled at me and said hi, whereas anywhere else it feels a little weird if you even make eye contact with people. (Although the second guy... he paused as he was walking past, smiled a really big, slow smile, mumbled "Hey baby peace" and flashed a peace sign at me {g}. He was a little weird.)

And then the house around the corner from where my TA lives: they had slogans written on the sidewalk, a poster attached to a tree outside ("WANTED: Compassion"), a little glass box that looked like a shrine (not sure to what), and a plastic wading pool, full of water, smack dab in the middle of their front walk.

Okay, what's up with Robert Downey Jr. being in that Elton John video? Weird. Although I must say I watched it, whereas if it'd been Elton John lipsynching, I would have changed the channel almost instantly. Robert Downey Jr. may not be too bright as well as just a tad messed up, but he's darn cute. The weird wrinkle in the back of his shirt was distracting though. And all of his pacing just screamed "Acting! Look at me! I'm acting!" Ooh, the mournful look. Ooh, the hand ruffling the hair. Ooh, hugging himself.

Maybe I'll rent ... what's that movie he was in that was supposed to be good? Two Girls and a Guy? Something about a pizza place? I dunno.

I'm going to be late for work. Blah.

Re. Sabotage 2001, a couple of links...

This is apparently Shenoah Allen, although the facial hair in this picture is quite disturbing.

Both guys were in this play, although again with the facial hair...

Ohhhh my. Apparently it's called Sabotage 2001 for a reason... there was an original Sabotage?? (Hee hee, Lou Diamond Phillips.) And according to this, it was done without a script? Huh. I could see where some parts might be adlibbed, but I'm certain they did have a lot of it scripted. Weird.

So maybe they'll be back next year.

Yesterday was a very good day. Went camera shopping with my parents to pick out a graduation present, and ended up decided on the second camera we looked at, at the first store. It's niiiiice... unfortunately I can't have it until October, when the ceremony is, but I'm getting all excited about photography again, which I haven't really been since grade 12.

I'd gotten a call that I had a book in at the library, so I went to pick it up and it turned out to be "The Virgin Suicides", which I've been looking forward to reading. I read a bit last night and it's very interesting -- it seems like the movie was very faithful to it, which is good, since I very much liked the movie. Don't know if I enjoyed the movie, but it definitely struck some chords.

Then I met up with sarah and we went to see the Fringe Festival show that we'd tried to see a week earlier, when it had been sold out. It was gooood. If you have hours to kill, you can read all about it {g}. Plus while we were waiting for the show to start, we got to try stilting. Much harder than it looks, even with the little puny ones. Then it was off to the beach... well, rocks and water, if not actual beach, and I had a lovely rock to sit on, even if it was a bit chilly. The sky was enormous.

Next it was off to the Ridge to see Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom, although we got there to find out that Moulin Rouge had been replaced by Legally Blonde. Doh. Legally Blonde was surprisingly good though. It's nice to see a really happy movie once in a while. I think I liked it better than Strictly Ballroom, even if Strictly Ballroom did have Australian accents, swively hips, and a lot of weirdness.

Finally, a brief round of disco bowling in which I kicked sarah's ass, no matter what she may have to say about it, and then to top it all off, Death by Chocolate was still open after midnight! Amazing.

And best of all -- I got to hear "Oops I did it again" twice in one night. Wow.

Now see, this is the kind of thing that makes me really miss school. Ahh, dear faculty of communications, where it would have been possible to write essays about homoeroticism in advertising for quite a few classes... it just wouldn't be the same, writing that kind of thing for fun. But I'm most impressed by his.
